Meteorologist Iisha Scott has the latest on a strengthening Tropical Storm Nate, and where along the Gulf Coast it can be expected to make landfall.

(CNN)The outer bands of Hurricane Nate reached the Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi coasts Saturday afternoon, with the fast-moving system expected to make landfall as a Category 2 storm late in the evening southeast of New Orleans, the National Hurricane Center and CNN meteorologists said.

Wind and rain from Nate pounded Grand Isle and Port Sulphur, Louisiana, as the storm, with sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, sprinted toward land at 25 mph. It was still a Category 1 storm at 2 p.m. ET, when the hurricane center issued its most recent advisory.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards encouraged residents to prepare for Nate as if it were a much stronger storm.

“Everyone who has been told to evacuate or would like to do so (should) do it now,” he said around 1 p.m. ET, adding that within three hours, everyone should stay indoors.

Almost 2,000 Canadians have chosen to put an end their lives with a doctor’s help in the year since medically assisted suicide became legal in the country. The number rose over the 12 months to almost 1 percent of all deaths.

An interim report released by Health Canada on Friday, which is tracking assisted suicides, revealed the increasing popularity of assisted dying among terminally ill Canadians.

A total of 1,982 people resorted to the controversial practice since June 2016, when it became enshrined in a federal law. The figures included 803 people in the first six months, and 1,179 in the second.

This constitutes an almost 47 percent increase, with 0.9 percent of all deaths in Canada from January to June being assisted suicides.

Cancer was found to be the leading medical condition prompting patients to seek an assisted death, which amounts to some 63 percent of all cases.

Neuro-degenerative disorders, respiratory and circulatory system failures were also among the top reasons prompting sufferers to choose euthanasia.

People of all ages resorted to assisted suicide, the entire range being 18 to 91 years old and the most common ages falling between 56 and 64.

Mexico City is still recovering from the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that killed over 200 people and devastated the capital, but many fear the increase in seismic activity may trigger the nearby volcano Popocatépetl.

A series of explosions and minor eruptions took place this week, putting citizens of the neighboring city of Puebla on alert as ash rained down over the city, with the seismic activity causing river waters to rise for a period.

The Draconid meteor shower, which takes place when the Earth hurtles through the debris field in the wake of Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, is set to peak this weekend and may treat lucky, and patient, stargazers to a beautiful natural fireworks display.

More often than not, the Draconids are quite tame, but every few years, stargazers are treated to a fiery maelstrom. For example, at its peak in 2011, the shower rained down up to 600 meteors per hour which were visible in the night sky, despite a bright moon, Science Alert reports.

However, this year may not quite live up to the hype for two reasons: we won’t pass that close to the debris field and an almost full moon will dramatically reduce visibility.
